Afghan people’s life
style has changed substantially by fall of the Taliban regime in all over the
country particularly in capital city of Kabul. Body building clubs have also
become popular among Afghan youth since then. The youth join these clubs in order
to be fit and have muscled bodies. Therefore, the number of bodybuilding clubs
is increasing rapidly. By taking a short walk in the city one can notice a few
muscled boys. It shows the importance of fitness for Afghan young generation.
However, the subject change is not much noticed in women’s life. Not very many
Afghan girls are fascinated by fitness, although some clubs hold specific
training shift for women. All in all, the number of girls enrolling in fitness clubs is not considerable.
There are a few reasons behind the lack women’s
presence in fitness clubs. First and foremost, girls are under great pressure
by their families culturally. Because they are preferably kept inside the house
- away from public eyes - so taking part in some out-door activities for girls
are not very welcomed in Afghan traditional society.Second, girls consider
fitness health as a masculine activity so they tend not to show much interest
in going to such clubs. To make changes in social activities of girls a period
of time and a great deal of effort particularly by women, part of the society
is required. In addition, in order to attract attention of Afghan female in the
subject activity facilities and equipment including exclusive fitness clubs are
required to be provided for girls; so that, both families and girls feel excited and safe as they step into the clubs.
