Analyses of “the piano “ – Mohammad irfani
“The piano” in an artistic way defends lovers struggle for reaching to satisfaction and happiness; a struggle that can bring victory over society’s norms and morals. But precisely the film is about a woman’s struggle to obtain a secure home and family in a period of time that women don’t enjoy many civil rights and men are the real decision makers...
This woman who lost her child’s father and her ability to speak in an accident, is a pianist, but nobody cares about her art as her personality demands .the man who shows her the taste of love in the first place is the man who hostages her through the piano .he reaches to her body, key by key and finally when there is one key left between them, he sends the piano to the woman’s house .is it the kind of him or an act aiming to attract her? It doesn’t matter here. The last key comes out of its place in the cost of one of her fingers. The woman finds out her love bed by losing one of her fingers. But she doesn’t regret, because she depends in her piano. The piano that she expresses her fillings and speaks through .she makes her final decision on whether she must go with her lover or not, while her foot is tied to the piano in the depth of the ocean.
Her struggle of love for finding the happiness of a home and a family is not a shameful one, but she does it proudly and it gives life what it’s looking for. Betrayal to her husband through adultery is not a betrayal to the honor of life or the honesty of family life, but it is only a failure in the love struggle that can ends in an honored victory. In the final scene, while the woman is touching the wall of a white house and tries to pronounce letters once again, she finds her lover’s body who is accompanying her struggle to improve and get better .her supporter in her sinless love struggle is her small daughter’s voice that narrates the love story .the little daughter’s narration of the story draws the bigger picture that approves the innocence of human love.
The piano points out the fact that building up a blessed family and a secure home is the shared responsibility of man and woman.  Men and women cannot decide about the family and the house affairs unilaterally. They cannot make the right judgments about the things and the events related to their shared life. This film points out that despite the traditional norms, moral values and dominant principles of the society, nothing and nobody can captivate human beings. Love, restive and blessing comes and seeking its claims breakdowns the society’s foundations. The film puts its finger on the fact that the social norms, values and dominant principles are created by the humans who give things their values and make up the milieu.
