“As simple as this”
Mohammad irfani
As simple as
this, accounts the life of a
woman who is not satisfied with her living. Her husband is an engineer and they
have two children. She is a young lady that enjoys a normal livelihood ...
they live in an apartment and the
neighbors love her. She also loves her neighbors and despite being a religious
person who consults with a clergy to make a simple decision, she is an open
minded character in her social connections. For example, when she sees one of
her neighbors - who is a lonely man- in the market, she gives him some advices
about how to cook spaghetti. Despite working as a household woman who has to
provide services for her two children, she participates in a poetry class. So
she is an intellectual woman. She starts her boring day, a day that she cannot
see her beloved husband, trying to write a poem. But she has a problem that her
children cannot understand neither her husband. She has not the language of
expression .she is originally a Turk speaker who has married to a Persian man
and now she speaks Farsi well. She has not the language of expression, because
her relation with her fundamental world is disconnected. Even her brother
speaks Farsi in Turkish style. With her kindness she has succeeded to support
her children in the process of socialization, but despite having these noble
characteristics in the society, she has the problem of expression. Desire
breathes under the skin of this woman but cannot be expressed by words and in
action. At the end of the day that is also her husband’s birthday, she could
not feed the special cookie to her husband, because their children already eat
it. After long hours of waiting, when her husband returns home, she is not able
to tell him her words and express her feelings. In fact, her words die under
her husband’s expression of his job success and problems; even her present for
her husband’s birthday goes hidden under the present that her husband’s
teammate has bought for him. Throughout the film only two times we can hear
from her Turkish foundation; first while she is trying to embed her daughter,
in remembrance of her father, (the grandfather) and the second time, a Turkish
word comes out form her husband’s mouth as a humor.
